The overall goal of LH2CRAFT is to develop a next generation sustainable, commercially attractive and safe technology for long-term and large-scale storage as well as long-distance transportation of LH2 on ships. The implementation of the above goal will be made by developing new design solutions for storage at a temperature of 20 K and demonstrating it on a 180 m3 containment system.
It is expected that knowledge of the main challenges regarding containment and storage for long haul transportation of LH2 will be built up and novel, more efficient, safe, low-cost solutions will be developed.
LH2CRAFT aims at achieving a technological impact at different levels, not only of the H2-based value chain, but also a wider economic impact across many different sectors. Starting point is the LH2 containment and storage at larger scale and for longer periods, under different conditions. Especially, such new products in the shipping sector may represent an opportunity for significant market share from a different point of view for all beneficiaries.
LH2CRAFT also intends to contribute positively to global market and societal challenges by serving society’s needs and EU’s strong global maritime leadership with major impacts on EU´s innovation-driven industry providing highly skilled jobs, efficient technological solutions, and international regulatory standards.
