The main aim of the Task 3.3 Containment System Material Testing and Approval led by National Technical University of Athens is to carry out all the necessary and relevant tests for the materials that form the barriers of the proposed Cargo Containment System (Stainless Steels 304/304L and 316/316L) in cryogenic conditions, with temperature down to the point of liquefication of H2 at 20 K. Testing requirements and relevant international standards selected in previous tasks will serve as a guide and will be the basis for conducting these tests. It is foreseen that properties like strength, stiffness, fatigue behaviour, fracture toughness, thermal conductivity, behaviour against H2 embrittlement etc. will be assessed. Prior to this, bibliographical research is to be conducted in order to study the mechanical, thermal and environmental behaviour of the subject materials in such conditions, as well as retrieve specific values of those properties which are potentially already known in the scientific society.
