For the safety and risk assessment of the LH2 cargo containment system an early Hazard Identification (HAZID) study will be performed that will provide feedback to various design phases from the conceptual design to the prototype testing. RINA will organise a HAZID meeting in June 2024, where relevant experts will participate. For the purposes of the HAZID a hazards list is already generated by RINA following the IMO CCC9/WP6: Revision of the interim recommendations for carriage of liquified hydrogen in bulk document, which was recently finalised (Sept 2023) by the IMO sub-committee.
Results and recommendations from the HAZID will be fed back into the design process and will be reviewed by Class before issuance of AiP for the LH2 containment, handling, distribution, and monitoring systems.
