LH₂CRAFT has reached two important technical milestones with the completion of Deliverable D9.1 – Approval in Principle of the LH₂ Cargo Containment System and Deliverable D9.2 – Approval in Principle of the LH₂ Handling, Distribution and Monitoring Subsystems.
The two deliverables present the ABS review letters issued following the assessment of the submitted drawings and technical documentation for the project’s Cargo Containment System and Handling, Distribution and Monitoring Subsystems concepts. Together, these achievements support LH₂CRAFT’s progress towards safe and efficient solutions for large-scale liquid hydrogen storage and long-distance marine transportation.
Approval in Principle of the LH₂ Cargo Containment System
Deliverable D9.1 presents the ABS review letter issued for the LH₂CRAFT Cargo Containment System concept following the review of the submitted drawings and technical documentation.
The review confirms that the proposed LH₂ Cargo Containment System concept is considered in principle feasible, marking an important step forward in the development of safe and efficient solutions for large-scale liquid hydrogen storage and long-distance marine transportation.

The ABS review covered key documentation, including the system description, provisional general arrangement of the CCS, insulation-space operating principles, structural and fatigue analyses, and the test plan for CCS materials. The review was carried out against relevant ABS requirements, marine vessel rules, the IGC Code, and IMO interim recommendations for the carriage of liquefied hydrogen in bulk.
As noted in the deliverable, the Approval in Principle review represents a concept-level assessment. The next stage will include the resolution of outstanding comments, the review of additional documentation, and the evaluation of test results to support the further development of the CCS concept.
Approval in Principle of the LH₂ Handling, Distribution and Monitoring Subsystems
Deliverable D9.2 presents the ABS review letter issued following the assessment of the submitted documentation for the LH₂CRAFT Handling, Distribution and Monitoring Subsystems concept.
The review confirms that the proposed HDMSS design concept is considered in principle acceptable, supporting the project’s progress towards safe and efficient liquid hydrogen storage and transport solutions.
