Meet Our Partners: RINA – A Global Leader in Classification and Innovation

As part of our “Meet Our Partners” campaign, we are pleased to highlight RINA, a key partner in the LH2CRAFT consortium and a pioneer in sustainable innovation within the maritime sector.

RINA S.p.A. was stablished in 1861 and is a founding member of IACS (International Association of Classification Societies). RINA’s headquarters are in Genova, Italy but the company has over 200 offices in 70 countries. Marine business represents about 27% of the company’s operating revenues and it operates on behalf of 122 flag authorities. In addition to the provision of classification and statutory certification, it delivers value added services to the shipping industry. Today, RINA provides tailored advisory services for shipyards and shipowners, particularly in complex areas relating to sustainability, environmental regulations and digital technologies

• RINA offers a wide range of services in engineering and consulting, testing, inspection, and certification, for any phase of projects, from feasibility to decommissioning. The company is active in various sectors such as marine, certification, energy, transportation, real estate and infrastructure, with particular attention to emission reduction and energy transition. Ship classification has been the cornerstone of RINA’s business from its very beginning, propelling the company to become one of the world’s leading marine classification societies.
• It is one of the top-ranking marine classification societies in the world. In the last three years, RINA’s fleet has grown at rates of over 15% thanks to the classification of existing ships and the delivery of new buildings.
• RINA is among the most active industrial players in European research and innovation programs. RINA has played a leading role in various successful European and national projects related with the decarbonization of the shipping sector, among others: NH3craft, SAFecraft, Engimmonia, DT4GS, Flexship and Tecbia.

Building on this strong foundation, RINA brings its extensive experience and innovation-driven approach to the LH2CRAFT project, supporting the design, risk assessment, regulatory development, and approval processes for liquid hydrogen containment systems in maritime applications.
