Preliminary Risk Evaluation with Conceptual Designs

The main objective of the HAZID, led by RINA, was to identify all potential causes of safety and environmental hazards arising from layout, process, materials, project philosophies, operational concepts and external events to permit prevention and, if not possible, mitigation actions to be implemented into the design to ensure the identified risks are minimised and tolerable. The HAZID analysis was conducted for the liquid hydrogen carrier vessel and liquid hydrogen cargo containment system developed in LH2craft. Several hazards have been identified during the live HAZID 3days workshop. Findings and results of the analysis were reported in detail in the HAZID Worksheets , in which the details of the discussion were given, including the issues and hazards identified, the analysis of the problems, the produced recommendations and – for each issue – the Severity, Likelihood and Risk Ranking prior to recommendations.

From the analysis, 65 actions for the safety of the LH2 carrier ship have been recommended, which are univocally identified and listed within the report. These actions were allocated to the responsible partners and will be addressed in the relevant WPs.
