Members of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) actively participated in the IMAM 2025 – 20th International Congress of the International Maritime Association of the Mediterranean, held in Crete, Greece (28 September – 3 October 2025), presenting cutting-edge research on materials and technologies for liquid hydrogen (LH₂) containment systems.

These contributions reflect National Technical University of Athens (NTUA)’s strong engagement in the LH2CRAFT project, which aims to develop safe, efficient, and scalable containment solutions for hydrogen-powered vessels.
National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) Presentations at IMAM 2025
🔹 A review of material behaviour at cryogenic conditions towards their application in membrane-type LH₂ cargo containment systems
Authors: Stavroula Maritsa, Theodoros Mavrozoumis, Efstathios Platypodis, Anna Zervaki, Nicholas Tsouvalis
🔹 Liquid hydrogen cargo containment systems: A focus on metallic barrier materials
Authors: Stavroula Maritsa, Ioannis Tzanetos, Maciej Szczerba, Magdalena Bieda, Joanna Wojewoda-Budka, Anna D. Zervaki
🔹 Gaps in international codes and standards regarding material requirements and testing in cryogenic conditions for liquid hydrogen containment systems
Authors: Theodoros Mavrozoumis, Stavroula Maritsa, Anna D. Zervaki, Nicholas Tsouvalis
The National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) team’s research addressed material performance at cryogenic temperatures, metallic barrier applications, and regulatory and standardization challenges — all crucial aspects for the safe design of LH₂ cargo containment systems.

These studies contribute to building the scientific foundation for next-generation hydrogen carriers, supporting LH2CRAFT’s mission to advance safe and sustainable hydrogen technologies for maritime transport.
